Matthew McClosky Fine Art

My work is inspired, and guided, by the sound of color and shape. I know that sounds like some artist statement nonsense, but I mean it quite literally. I experience visual to auditory synesthesia meaning I hear everything I see. I use the harmonies I "see" as a guide as I paint bright vibrant landscapes and flowers. I also have a professional medium format camera setup. I use this to both make prints of my work and photograph landscapes as well as scenes around Seattle, my home town. My photography is also guided by synesthetic sounds. As I look through the viewfinder I listen carefully and pan across a scene. As I do the chord I hear changes. I change the framing until I find a way to bring all of the primary angles and proportions of the composition together into a stable harmony.
